One of the more emotional and heartwarming scenes from Sunday’s episode of “Yellowstone” involved Teeter standing up for herself.
During Episode 6, Rip delivered the bad news that no more women would be allowed in the bunkhouse. Teeter protested, saying she had nothing to do with the fight between Lloyd and Walker. But John Dutton’s decision was final, as was Rip’s enforcement.
But in Episode 7, we see Teeter approach Rip and John and plead her case for her to stay. The Yellowstone ranch hand explains how she works harder than anyone there, and Rip backs her up on that. When John remains firm because of Teeter fooling around with Colby, she finally shows him the brand. John knows he’s trapped now, so he says nothing else about Teeter staying or going.
Rip, on the other hand, tells her to bring her things back to the bunkhouse. In a sweet but awkward moment, she hugs him while he’s astride the horse. He lets it happen because he knows that for a moment, Teeter thought she’d lost her home and family.
In a behind-the-scenes video, “Yellowstone” star Cole Hauser explained what Rip felt in that moment.
“I don’t think Rip ever wanted Teeter to leave,” he said in the video. “When she comes back and makes her case for what she’s doing, and what she’s done and how she’s done it, I think he’s proud that she came and stood up for herself.”
“Yellowstone” audience members can confirm that we, too, were proud of her at that moment.
“She’s like anybody who’s branded,” Hauser continued. “You take that oath and you go through the suffering of being burnt on your chest like that, you deserve to be part of this ranch until the day you die.”
‘Yellowstone’ Star Jen Landon Opens Up About Teeter’s Thoughts at Getting Fired
Right before “Yellowstone” star Cole Hauser opened up about Rip’s thoughts in this emotional scene, Jen Landon mentioned what was going through Teeter’s mind at the time.
“For Teeter, to be fired was devastating,” Landon explained in the behind-the-scenes clip. “As wily and rebellious as she is, all she really wants is to belong to a family.”
And when she received the brand at the end of “Yellowstone” Season 3, Teeter felt that connection to her found family even more.
“And so in a weird way, this thing that feels like it might be an oppressive form of ownership for her really feels liberating,” Landon said about the brand. Not every Yellowstone ranch hand might feel that way about it, but knowing that Teeter does just shows why she deserves to stay there.
Rip also cements that thought when he tells Teeter that the brand “means something” around there. After almost losing everything, Teeter understands what it means better than most.
