Why This ‘Game Of Thrones’ Cast Member Couldn’t Stand The Show

Throughout the majority of Game of Thrones’ time on television, the show was one of the most beloved series of all time. Unfortunately, however, things started to go off the rails after there were no more novels left for the show to adapt, and then its final season was such a mess that most fans panned it. In fact, many viewers were so disappointed by the time the show ended that there are calls for Game of Thrones’ eighth season to be remade.

In the years since it came to an end, most Game of Thrones stars have talked about loving their time on the show. Despite that, there is one former Game of Thrones cast member who has been extremely open about the disdain he had for the show. In fact, this cast member clearly has no respect for a lot of Game of Thrones fans and he couldn’t care less about spoiling what he knew about the show before his episode aired.

Ian McShane Had No Respect For Game Of Thrones From The Start

On June 5th of 2016, the seventh episode of Game of Thrones sixth season titled “The Broken Man” aired and it introduced fans to the character Brother Ray. Throughout Game of Thrones’ eighth season, virtually every character that was introduced either had a vicious streak or they were victims without a lick of fighting skill. For that reason, it was unique for the show to introduce Brother Ray, a formerly violent mercenary who’d changed their life to become a pacifist.

Since Brother Ray was such an interesting character, it makes sense that Game of Thrones’ producers hired a highly respected actor who oozes charisma to bring him to life. Sadly, however, the actor they hired, Ian McShane, seemingly didn’t understand how seriously everyone took Game of Thrones spoilers. As a result, when he talked about his Game of Thrones role during a BBC Breakfast interview, McShane’s remarks were far too revealing.

“My character really is like an ex-warrior who’s become a peacenik, so I have a group of peaceful … sort of a cult who … I bring back a much-loved character who everybody thinks is dead.” When Ian Mcshane made those remarks, a lot of people had already been guessing that The Hound was set for a return and took his statement as confirmation. As it turned out, when McShane’s episode aired, the character he was referring to actually was The Hound.

After a lot of anger was directed at Ian McShane for giving away a major spoiler, he was interviewed by The Telegraph, When asked about the controversy, McShane made it clear that he had nothing but disdain for Game of Thrones and its fans. “You say the slightest thing and the internet goes ape. I was accused of giving the plot away, but I just think get a f**king life. It’s only tits and dragons.”

Ian McShane Insults Game Of Thrones Fans Again And Gives A Second Spoiler

Unsurprisingly, many Game of Thrones fans weren’t happy to read Ian McShane’s comments about the show and its fans. Considering that there were millions of people who couldn’t get enough of Game of Thrones at the time, you’d think that Ian McShane wouldn’t want to piss them off even more. Instead, McShane doubled down when an Empire Magazine reporter asked him about his initial Game of Thrones controversy.

“Can you believe it? ‘Oh, you’re giving it away. Firstly, you love it and secondly, you’ll have forgotten by the time it comes out. And what am I giving away? A character beloved by everybody returns. Get a f—ing life. The show is huge but some fans seem to identify with it [too closely]. You want to say, ‘Have you thought about your lifestyle? Maybe you should get out a little more.’”

If all of the aforementioned things that Ian McShane said didn’t ensure that Game of Thrones fans were pissed at him, he gave away yet another major spoiler. During the aforementioned The Telegraph interview, Ian McShane revealed the story behind him taking his Game of Thrones role. Amazingly enough, during that part of the conversation, McShane revealed that his character would die during his debut episode.

“They asked me if I wanted to do Game of Thrones and I said, ‘Sure, I’ll be able to see my old pals Charlie Dance and Stephen Dillane’ and they said, ‘No, we’ve killed them off.’ I wasn’t sure whether I could commit, but then they said it would only be for one episode, so I said, ‘So that means I must die at the end of it. Great, I’m in’.”
