M*A*S*H

WATCH: ‘M*A*S*H’ Stars Alan Alda, Mike Farrell and Loretta Swit Reunite to Talk About Life, Show

Just like old times, MAS*H stars Alan Alda, Loretta Swit, and Mike Farrell chatted it up on a talk show earlier this year.

Actually, Outsiders, Alda hosts a show called Clear+Vivid and invited his longtime co-stars to join him.

In case you didn’t know, Alda played Benjamin Franklin Pierce, Swit played Margaret “Hot Lips” Houlihan, and Farrell played B.J. Hunnicutt. Farrell joined M*A*S*H after Wayne Rogers left the CBS show.

Let’s check out the chit-chat as it took place in February 2021.

Alda and Swit were part of the show’s cast from its first season onward.

M*A*S*H ran for 11 seasons, all on CBS. When it first hit the TV screens, the show was geared toward getting laughs. That’s due to the writing and guidance of Larry Gelbart, who came into the show with a background in comedy.

When Gelbart left, though, MAS*H turned its attention on more serious aspects of the Korean War.

Alda has been dealing with Parkinson’s disease in recent years. But he remains active in show business.

Of course, the show is in reruns across televisions around the world.

‘M*A*S*H’ Star Swit Says Cast Was Always Aware of TV Show’s Special Nature

For Swit, she and Alda were two of four cast members to stay from Season 1 to Season 11, its last one.

Now the MAS*H actress had a bit of an inkling that she was part of a truly special show.

In an interview with FOX News, Swit said that she didn’t think that she’d ever realize that her show would be a classic.

“But I will say that while we were shooting, even from the very beginning, we were aware of how very special it was,” she said. “The symbiosis, the camaraderie, the love and respect we had for each other. And the material, to be blessed with those gifted writers, starting of course with Larry Gelbart.

“So you had to know that this was going to be an incredible experience,” Swit said. “That it turned into a phenomenon – no. There’s no way we could have predicted that.”

And what a phenomenon.

Farrell Dealt With Ending of Classic Show in His Own Way

Like many cast members on MAS*H, saying goodbye to the show and everyone you saw at work was hard.

Farrell definitely had some tough times around saying goodbye.

He recalled what it was like on the show’s final day of filming in an interview with MeTV.

Farrell said everyone went through “this thing knowing this will be the last time I’ll ever stand here. This is the last opportunity I’m going to have to say goodbye to these characters.”

Well, he said goodbye but fans get a chance to say “hello” to Hawkeye, Hot Lips, and B.J.
