Denzel Washington Was Not Impressed With This Celeb’s ‘Method Acting’

"I stayed away from him. He stayed away from me, respectfully so."

It is part of the game, though some take it a bit too far… at least by those that are looking from afar and at times, their co-workers.

Perhaps in the current modern-day of actors, Shia LaBeouf is a name that typically comes up in conversations. Heck, he took LSD to fully experience what the feeling is like for his role, and as if that wasn’t crazy enough, he filmed himself and sent it to others for feedback.

However, even some of the greats might’ve gone too far with their demands, Robert De Niro requested an actual real bullet come out of a gun in a ‘The Deer Hunter’ scene. Sounds like a workplace hazard…

We appreciate the commitment level, but some might be going way out of what they should. Just ask Denzel Washington, who was recently paired alongside one of the biggest method actors in the game.

As Denzel recently revealed, he wasn’t bothered with the actor’s approach and in truth, it seems like he really didn’t have time for the antics involved.

Let’s reveal which film the two worked alongside one another and which actor Denzel is referring to.

The Film Got Mixed Reviews

Released in early January, Denzel was one of the stars of the film, ‘The Little Things’. In terms of revenues generated, the film was not a success and in fact, it underperformed in a major way.

With a $30 million budget, the film brought in $29 million, which is a major letdown given the cast involved in the project. Denzel was flanked by the likes of Rami Malek, Natalie Morales, and the man in question who played the role of Albert Sparma, none other than Jared Leto.

The film received six stars on IMDB, which some find a little too generous. Rotten Tomatoes gave the film a low approval rating of 45%. It won’t go down as one of Denzel’s classics. In truth, maybe the film lost some value because of a certain method actor.

Leto Is Known For Going Too Far

We can discuss Leto and his method-acting ways all day, in truth. Even when he’s alongside the likes of Will Smith, his approach doesn’t change. Smith admitted that despite the fact that they worked ‘Suicide Squad’ together for six months, they never met aside from during scenes.

“I’ve never actually met Jared Leto. We worked together for six months and we’ve never exchanged a word outside of ‘Action!’ and ‘Cut!’ I literally have not met him yet. So, the first time I see him will be ‘Hey, Jared. What’s up?’ He was all in on the Joker.”

The actor is also known for going over and above what is needed to look a certain role. He dropped more than 25-pounds in the past but what might be worse is his 62-pound weight gain for the role of Mark Chapman. Not only was it a brutal task but it also created health complications.

“Really, it’s a stupid thing to do. I got gout, and my cholesterol went up so fast in such a short time that my doctors wanted to put me on Lipitor, which is for much, much older people. Again, though, a fascinating journey.”

It seems like Denzel wasn’t too concerned about Jared’s ways. When speaking about their time together, Washington took the sarcastic approach.

Denzel Didn’t Have Time For The Antics

At this stage of his career, Denzel made it clear, he doesn’t have the time or the patience to keep up with method actor antics off the set. Denzel made it clear, Leto wasn’t up to any of his tricks when the two paired up for ‘The Little Things’.

“He didn’t do any of that with me. Nah. He’d have been paid a visit. That wouldn’t happen. I stayed away from him. He stayed away from me, respectfully so. We’d bow or nod from across the highway. Literally, one day we nodded across the highway from each other. I’d follow him around. I was outside of his apartment sometimes and he didn’t know. I won’t say anything more about it. I’ll put it this way, he didn’t know.”

Leto has been asked in the past about his ways on and off the set while shooting a film and according to the actor, he just wants to do his best.

Even if that means being overly prepared, he’s always ready to go above and beyond for his roles.

Some appreciate the passion while others, well, as we see here, not so much.
